Welcome to the first issue of ISOLE Magazine. This publication’s name is drawn from the French word, Isolé, which translates to, “Isolated, or set apart from the rest.” The prime directive here at Isole is to first call attention to the work of compelling outliers in various creative disciplines, then further investigate the fundamentals of their outlook, work flow approach, real world impact, and accomplishments.
As editor, my hope is to offer readers an alternative viewpoint to those promulgated by more mainstream publications. As Sex Pistols front man John Lydon once said of the Punk Rock movement,”Don’t follow us, do what you want.” Here at Isole our goal is to inspire a similar brand of DIY truth seeking in our readers.
Our first issue focuses on artists/writers operating within the surf, music, and visual arts communities. Some of these individuals may be familiar to you, others likely not so. However, known or unknown, within the pages of Isole our subjects will be offered a platform to both showcase their work and lend personal insights as to the intrinsic meaning behind it.
In our publication you will sometimes encounter conflicting ideologies, and perspectives, as our philosophy is one of inclusion rather than exclusivity. The viewpoints offered herein emanate from individuals who have forged their own compasses, who live by their own standards, and who stand apart from the rest. This is the spirit that embodies the meaning of Isole.
Thank you for reading,
Noel
